WIAA Hockey Playoff Preview

This year, in the 2018 WIAA State Hockey Tournament Playoffs, the Pines Boys Hockey team earned the #2 seed behind only Wausau West in Section 3. In the first round of playoffs the Eagles will play the winner of #7 seed Rhinelander/Three Lakes Co-op verses #10 seed Mosinee Co-op on Tuesday, February 13 at 7PM at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

Rhinelander came out on top in the battle with a 5-4 OT thriller and will travel to Eagle River on Thursday, February 15 at 7PM to face the Eagles in a winner-advances game. The Eagles took both conference games this season 6-0 and 10-1 and will play for the third time this season. If the Eagles win they will be able to host a second round playoff game against the winner of #3 seed Stevens Point against #6 seed Lakeland/Mercer on February 20.

On the girls side of the playoffs, the #5 seed Pines Girls Hockey team will play the #4 seed Lakeland Co-op in a conference matchup in the first round this Friday, February 16 at 7PM at the Lakeland Ice Arena. With very few teams in the state compared to the boys side, the only team that receives a bye in the first round of the playoffs is the #1 seed which is the Marshfield Co-op. The winner of the Northland Pines verses Lakeland will travel to Waupaca to play the Marshfield Co-op on Tuesday, February 20 at 7PM at the Waupaca Expo.

The Boys Sectional dates are scheduled for February 15, February 20 and February 24 for the Sectional Final game at Greenheck Ice Arena at 4PM. The winner of the Sectional Championship game will advance to an eight-team state tournament at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison, Wisconsin on March 1 through March 3.

The Girls Sectional dates are scheduled for February 15 or 16, February 20 and February 24 for the Sectional Final game also at Greenheck Ice Arena at 1PM. They will play right before the Boys Sectional Final game and the winner will also advance to a four-team state tournament in the same location on the same dates.
