The 2017-18 Northland Pines SkillsUSA group has started up this school year, with the students involved already registering for their events at the state competition. In order to cover the expenses, the group has started and begun selling tickets for a cash raffle.
The 45th Annual State Leadership & Skills Conference will be taking place at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Schools from across the state send groups to compete at the many different events every year.
It is a two-day competition, so groups are required to fundraise to cover the cost of hotel rooms. For this school year, the Northland Pines group is hoping to be able to raise enough funds to stay overnight both nights, which would allow them to attend the awards ceremony.
Last year, the SkillsUSA group had multiple successful students. The two groups in the Team Engineering Challenge both made outstanding solutions to the problems, and Madelyn Mesun placed first in T-Shirt Design, advancing to Nationals. After some troubles last year, the students are making sure to register for their events, as spots fill up fast.
Like last year, the group is running a cash raffle, with tickets on sale for $10 each. The raffle winnings for the lucky ticket holder is determined by the amount of tickets sold, with a $1000 maximum, a minimum being half of what is raised.
Along with a cash raffle, there will be a new fundraiser this year. The group decided on trying a TV Raffle, with tickets being sold starting in March. A car wash day will also be scheduled before the competition, just like in previous years.
It isn’t too late yet to sign up, but students interested need to reach out to Mr. Fuller or Mr. Olivotti in order to have the best chance of getting a spot at the state competition.
